Summary

The Center for Breakthrough Medicines is currently seeking a talented and dedicated Associate Scientist/Scientist to join its Analytical Development, Next-Generation Sequencing team. As a critical member of the group, you will be instrumental in the optimization and execution of CBM’s Next-Generation Sequencing experiments which are critical for product development. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and have a passion for the application of NGS technology.

Responsibilities

  • Perform lab work related to sequencing workflows, including DNA/RNA isolation, sample normalization and quality control.
  • Prepare libraries for DNA/RNA sequencing
  • Operate and maintain quality control and flow cell loading on NGS instrumentation (Illumina) and third-generation sequencing platforms (PacBio, Oxford Nanopore).
  • Develop standardized protocols for NGS data generation.
  • Evaluate novel technologies and platforms for NGS sequencing.
  • Perform a wide range of moderate to complex high-throughput molecular biology techniques, including DNA and RNA extraction, quantification, fragmentation, fractionation, PCR, and multiplexing.
  • Collect, analyze, interpret, and report complex QC metrics from multiple instruments, including multi-sample focused-ultrasonicators, spectrophotometers, fluorometers, plate readers, automated electrophoresis platforms, and sequencers.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records in an electronic laboratory notebook.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in molecular biology or related field required.
  • 3-5 years relevant laboratory experience required.
  • Strong practical knowledge of molecular biology methods is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform high-throughput laboratory techniques such as multichannel pipetting and microplate manipulation is required.
  • Experience with advanced analytical equipment for DNA/RNA quantification is highly desired
  • Next-generation sequencing experience is highly desired.
  • Ability to develop, improve and meticulously follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) is desired.
  • Experience with high-throughput sample management desired.
  • User experience with automated liquid handling platforms desired.
  • Excellent time management skills and collaboration skills required.
  • Highly collaborative and detail oriented, excellent oral/written communication skills.
  • Experience in CLIA or GMP environment is a plus.
