Summary

The Senior Medical Technologist working in our Molecular Diagnostics division requires extensive knowledge of science and laboratory procedures, specialized medical diagnostic laboratory tests, blood test procedures, and medical terminology to perform specialized medical laboratory diagnostic tests. The Senior Medical Technologist will regularly have the authority to determine which products to use and often perform the more difficult tests in the laboratory and may lead and/or supervise the work of others. A positive and professional interpersonal style with a strong commitment to the team effort is mandatory. 

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the validation of new test and instrument procedures
  • Monitors reagent and supply inventory, quality control review, and data verification
  • Participate in the development of technical procedures and techniques; including writing, revising and validating the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as required.
  • Participate in the development, evaluation, and maintenance of the competency program.
  • Support a culture of continuous improvement, quality and productivity.
  • Perform operational qualification on analytical instruments, analytical method validations, validation protocols and reports for analytical methods.
  • Perform calibrations, linearities and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
  • Perform a variety of determinations on different bodily fluids; confirm and verify test results and report findings to clinicians.
  • Review the patient's test results, quality control (QC) results and maintenance records to ensure quality and take any corrective actions, as necessary.
  • Verify specimen and patient information, determine internal or external testing of specimens, and execute data entry.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field
  • 2-5 Years’ experience in a clinical lab and/or research lab environment
  • Ability to multitask; Ability to work Independently; Attention to detail
  • Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others, and independent thought particularly in the field of PCR-based molecular diagnostics
  • Expert in knowledge of scientific principles and concepts
  • Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to seek certification for ASCP in molecular biology
