Summary

The Lab Billing / Coding Manager is responsible for communicating company goals, ensuring compliance with standards, and deadlines to the team. You’ll motivate team members and assess performance, provide guidance, instruction, training, and leadership skills to inspire the team to perform at their optimum.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the team; motivate the team to achieve organizational goals
  • Develop/implement a timeline to achieve targets quickly
  • Delegate tasks to team members and monitor execution
  • Conduct training of team members to maximize their potential while aligning strengths and skillsets with job requirements
  • Empower team members with skills to improve their confidence, knowledge, and communication
  • Alert the Billing Supervisor and/or the Manager Lab Revenue Cycle of any anomalies with the integrity of contracts and/or contract databases
  • Conduct team meetings to update members on best practices and continuing expectations
  • Generate/share comprehensive and detailed reports about team performance, company related objectives, and deadlines
  • Inform team of consistent issues as they occur and make recommendations to improve departmental quality outcomes
  • Provide quality customer service
  • Assist management in the development/implementation of new policies and procedures
  • Evaluate and assign appropriate CPT or HCPC codes for laboratory testing including, but not limited to, potential future services
  • Research and advise of coding changes; educate key stakeholders on updates
  • Maintain current knowledge of payer regulations
  • Assist with maintaining accounts receivable days within designated goal
  • Perform the correct revenue cycle process to adjudicate claim within payers timely filing guidelines
  • Manage rejections from clearinghouse
  • Coordinate activity with internal/external customers; serve as primary contact person for issues relating to revenue cycle
  • Maintain strictest confidentiality; adhere to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 4+ years' experience in a customer service-related position
  • 4+ years of billing, payment posting, or A/R experience in a healthcare setting
  • Experience in medical and laboratory coding and billing, AAPC coding certification preferred
  • Motivational skills and the ability to develop, implement, and assess performance metrics
  • Experience analyzing company needs, employee development, and goal setting
  • Instructional experience in a group business setting preferred
  • Strong understanding of goals and standards for customer service
  • Investigative mind and strong research skills
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft office software
  • Strong communication skills
